The email at left was sent to one of our staff. It appeared to be from a real bank. (We've changed the name here.) The first indication of scam was when the recipient realized they did not have an account with this bank! The phisher's net is cast wide reaching those with actual accounts at the institution they are pretending to send from. Even if you have an account with that bank, do not be taken in. Any legitimate bank or financial institution will not solicit personal or account information from you. They already have it. If you should receive an email of this nature, DO NOT follow the links within the text. DO NOT call the phone number on the email. If you have an account with the institution supposedly sending the request, call the number you are familiar with to report the incident. If you have any doubt about the content of a notice you get from your financial institution, call them directly before moving forward. IMPORTANT NOTICE: New Buffalo Savings Bank will never email you with a request for your personal information or access codes. We will never send you an email with an attachment unless you specifically request something be sent that way. Please report any suspicious email you receive that appears to be from someone here at the bank. DO NOT FORWARD IT. If possible, print it out and drop it off or mail it to: Operations Thank you. |
