Gail Trusha and her twin sister, Grace Fradette received a comprehensive heart health screening at New Buffalo Savings Bank on Sept 23. The screening was offered by the Heart Cart program of The Heart & Vascular Institute at La Porte Regional Health System. Heart disease is the number one killer in our communities,” said Arleen Francis, CV Nurse Navigator, a registered nurse of La Porte Regional Health System (LRHS).
The package included EKG, weight, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar and lipid profile, ankle brachial index, carotid and abdominal aortic ultrasound, Framingham Risk Analysis and Metabolic Syndrome tests. Results will be mailed to individual participant three to four weeks following the screening. “This was so convenient and what a service to the community, especially for people like me,” said Trusha.
