RV students place at regional and compete at state Business Professionals of America

River Valley’s chapter of Business Professionals of America (RVHS BPA) is a group of dedicated, hard-working students interested in developing leadership skills along with personal and professional skills. Mr. Jim Nevil is the RVHS BPA Advisor. The mission of Business Professionals of America is to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.  There are over 60,000 members in the national high school organization.

In January, the RVHS BPA traveled to Dowagiac, Michigan, to compete in the regional competition.  Three qualified for state competition Taylar Thompson in Basic Office Systems and Procedures and Medical Office Procedures;  Jesse Stell in Entrepreneurship; and  Cassandra Strauss in Keyboarding Production.   This is a great learning experience for BPA members to go and improve their business skills.

The Workplace Skills Assessment Program is an integral part of Business Professionals of America. The goal of the program is to provide all business students the opportunity to

demonstrate workplace skills learned through business education curricula. Students will:

• demonstrate occupational competencies
• broaden knowledge, skills, and attitudes
• expand leadership and human relations skills
• demonstrate a competitive spirit
• receive recognition

The national high school organization offers more than 50 events in various areas related to financial, administrative support, information technology, management, marketing, and human resources.
